I just found this letter in a copy of ‘A Christmas Carol’ from the 1930s.
The first page is missing but I think it’s really really nice.
'…Today at lunch we made the most terrific row & Angela May was crying with laughter. Our form room is wizard with all the deck chairs in it & yesterday evening we all sat round on cushions & rugs while Woody read to us 'The Importance of a Kiss' out of the Teen Age Book. We all got helpless giggles especially as Woody sounded like one of those dreadful females on 'Woman's Hour.' Ann then read us at what age to use make up etc and test of personality etc. I felt so weak by the end of the evening. My dear Partree actually wished us luck both verbally & written for school cert, you know she's awfully decent really.
We all got in a row last night for wearing gym tunics for Prayers. Boot stormed into supper and we all had to go and change. Things at Thursley are OK now. The other night we had a dreadful time ‘cos Tiggy & Alsea had a row but has blown over now. I wish you’d hurry up and come back though. Your mother wrote to me yesterday!!! Thanks awfully for it. Glad to hear thing are OK in Canada, what a blessing, it would have been awful if they hadn’t. I must stop now, please give my love to James, Twiling & Gill & tell Twiling I’m taking great care of Flopsy, and she is enjoying herself very much.
I’ve got stacks to tell you when you get back, everybody sends their love.’
